We take you to Dedinje, to Legat Lubarda, the home, studio, and now the gallery of paintings of the great artist.

Petar Lubarda is the most famous name of Yugoslav art, which resonates throughout the 20th century. century. The progenitor of new painting in the Balkans , whose artistic expression combined the strength of the Montenegrin karst and modernity. He was born in Ljubotinje near Cetinje, and he matured artistically in Paris, where he “began to understand what Picasso, Braque, Matisse were doing…”.

He created inspired by the Montenegrin space, the meeting of soil and sky, bareness, karst and sun. An important base of his painting was the national myth and history of the Balkans , to which he managed to give a universal, cosmopolitan vision, told in a reduced painting language, on the border between figuration and abstraction.

Today carefully guarded as part of the House of Legate, the villa on Dedinje was given to Petar as a space where he would live and create. There we will see his various works: from monumental paintings to drawings and sketches, palettes, brushes, notebooks that illustrate his creative process and artistic experience.
