The goal of this project is to support discussion and bring some interesting art and history topics closer to the audience, through the form of a relaxed conversation.

History of Zemun from Cafe Belvi – Discussion about the cultural and artistic heritage is an event that we organized on the 30 in June at Belvi pub in Zemun. Art historians Isidora Savić, Sanda Kalebić and Jovana Milovanović, as well as their colleague Nikola Piperski, participated in the discussion.

Cafe Belvi was first opened in 1939. and then again in 2012. in a new guise, but under the auspices of the same family. The history of the place and the family, motivated us to hold the event here, which was a great discussion about culture in a relaxed environment.

Through the discussion of the participants, a comprehensive view of the history of Zemun was given, with a focus on its key topics. Gardos Hill, its ancient layers, were discussed until the construction of the fortress and the death of the Hungarian hero, Janos Hunjadi, in it. Also, the settlement of Zemun and the Gardoš hills are discussed in the wider context of the Danube and the Central European, multi-cultural, border area, where empires, kingdoms and empires alternated, with an emphasis on the period of Austria-Hungary and the Kingdoms of Serbia and Yugoslavia.
